Getting Started With The TriWave: Your First 60 Days

Your Device Is Charged. Now What?

The TriWave is not complicated, but it does reward a little upfront understanding. Microcurrent is technique-dependent in a way that most skincare tools are not. The device can only do what you direct it to do, which means knowing the order of your waveforms, how to hold the probes, and how to move them correctly makes a genuine difference in your results.

This guide walks you through everything you need for your first session and your first 60 days. No overwhelm. Just the essentials, in the right order.

Before Your First Session: Three Things to Know

You won't feel much, and that's correct. True microcurrent operates below the sensory threshold. Most people feel nothing at all, or a faint awareness near bony areas like the jaw. If you feel a strong tingle or see visible muscle twitching, you have too much current dialed in or not enough gel on the skin. Turn the intensity down and add more gel before continuing.

Moisture is everything. The current needs a conductive pathway to travel effectively into the skin. Dry skin blocks it. Every session starts with a water-based conductive gel applied to the area you are treating. Do not skip this step, and do not let the skin dry out mid-session. If you are using the Rejuv setting for lymphatic work across a larger area, the RePlenish Conductive Spritzer first, then gel on top, gives you the best coverage.

Technique matters more than intensity. More current does not mean better results. Work at a comfortable level, 175 to 250 microamps is the right range for most new users, and focus on moving the probes correctly. You will get more from a well-executed session at lower intensity than a sloppy session at maximum output.

Your Three-Step Session Protocol

The TriWave's three waveforms are designed to be used in a specific sequence, each one preparing the skin for the next. Run through all three in a single session for a complete protocol.

Step One: Rejuv

Start here, every time. Rejuv works on the lymphatic system, encouraging stagnant fluid to move and clearing the way for everything that follows. Think of it as the preparation step. It reduces morning puffiness, calms any underlying inflammation, and gets the skin in an optimal state for the lifting and toning work ahead.

Use long, sweeping strokes along the lymphatic pathways, working outward from the center of the face toward the ears, then down the neck toward the collarbone. Both probes glide together in the same direction. This is not a pinch and hold step. You are moving fluid, not targeting individual muscles, so keep the movement continuous and light.

Spend two to three minutes here. Your skin should look calmer and slightly more awake when you are done.

Step Two: Erase

Erase targets the muscles that are chronically contracted, the ones responsible for forehead lines, furrowed brows, and jaw tension. The movement for Erase works from the belly of the muscle outward, lengthening and releasing.

For the forehead, place one probe near the hairline and draw the other slowly downward toward the brow, following the direction of the frontalis muscle. For the area between the brows, work outward from the center toward the temples. Around the jaw, move from the angle of the jaw toward the ear.

You are not lifting here. You are releasing. Keep the pressure light and the movement slow and deliberate. Two to three minutes across the areas of concern.

Step Three: Educate

Educate is the lifting step, and it uses the pinch and hold technique. This is where the dual-probe design of the TriWave earns its value.

To perform a pinch and hold: place one probe at the origin of the muscle (closer to the bone) and the other at the insertion (the moveable end). Hold both probes still for three to five seconds, allowing the current to communicate directly with the belly of the muscle. Then lift slightly, moving the insertion probe toward the origin in the direction of the desired lift, and hold again. Release and move to the next position.

For the jawline, work from the chin upward toward the ear. For the brows, move from the outer corner of the brow upward and slightly inward. For the cheeks, lift from the nasolabial area upward toward the cheekbone.

Always move against gravity. Every motion is upward and outward. You are re-educating the muscle to sit where it belongs, not dragging the skin around the surface.

Spend five to eight minutes on Educate, focusing on the areas of most concern to you.

Accessories: What to Use and When

The probes that come with your TriWave are your primary tool and what you will use for most sessions. The TriWave is also compatible with several accessories that expand what you can do.

The electrode pads adhere directly to the skin for a more passive treatment. They work well for consistent coverage on larger areas like the forehead and are useful when you want to run a session hands-free.

The hands-free masks for the forehead, eyes, and lips allow you to sit back and let the device work while you are reading or resting. These are good maintenance tools once you are comfortable with the protocol. Note that the masks should not be used on the Rejuv setting.

The Anma LIFT Sculpting Probe is an upgrade accessory designed for more precise muscle targeting, particularly useful for detailed jawline and brow work. If you find yourself wanting more precision as you get more comfortable with the device, it is worth adding.

Your First 60 Days: What to Expect

New to microcurrent, the muscles of your face are essentially beginning an exercise program. They need repetition to build memory and hold their results longer. Here is how to structure your first two months.

Days 1 to 60: three to five sessions per week. Each session runs approximately 15 to 20 minutes for a full three-step protocol. You will likely notice an immediate glow and a subtle lift after your first few sessions. These results will last 48 to 72 hours initially. That is normal and expected. Each session builds on the last.

After day 60: once you are satisfied with your baseline results, most people move to one to two sessions per week as maintenance. Results become more durable as the muscles strengthen and hold their tone between sessions.

Consistency is the whole game here. Three sessions a week for two months will show you real, cumulative results. Sporadic use will not.

Fitting the TriWave Into Your Existing Routine

Microcurrent works best on clean skin with no active products on the surface. Run your session after cleansing and before applying serums or moisturizer.

One of the benefits of microcurrent is that it significantly enhances product absorption immediately following treatment. The skin is more receptive in the 20 minutes after a session than at almost any other point. This is the ideal moment to apply your most active products, growth factors, peptide serums, or anything you want to drive deeper into the skin.

Do not use the TriWave over active blemishes, broken skin, or immediately after resurfacing treatments like chemical peels or microneedling. Wait until the skin has fully healed before reintroducing microcurrent.

When to Go Deeper

The protocol in this guide will take you a long way. Once you are comfortable with the basics, the TriWave Learn Center has targeted tutorials for specific areas: the neck and jawline, the brow and eye area, the lips and nasolabial area. Each spoke of the protocol has its own nuances that are worth learning as you advance.

And if you ever want a professional eye on your technique or a personalized protocol built around your specific concerns, our esthetician team is here for exactly that. Start a complimentary consultation and we will help you get the most from your device.
