BiON Green Tea Clay Poultice is a targeted spot treatment and overnight acne mask from BiON Research that works by drawing bacteria, excess oil, and impurities up and out of congested pores. It carries a light, herbal scent from lavender, geranium, ylang ylang, and turmeric, giving it a distinctly botanical character.
Key Benefits
Pulls bacteria and impurities out of blemishes Montmorillonite clay acts like a magnet inside clogged pores, absorbing excess oil, bacteria, and lipases that drive active breakouts.
Calms redness and inflammation at the source Green tea leaf extract, willow bark extract, and licorice leaf extract work together to reduce the visible redness and swelling around blemishes while they heal.
Inhibits the hormonal trigger behind breakouts Salicylic acid and willow bark extract help block 5-alpha-reductase activity, a key enzyme that converts hormones into the form that overstimulates oil glands and contributes to acne.
Soothes and protects irritated skin Oat betaglucan, calendula flower extract, and gotu kola leaf extract help reinforce the skin barrier and reduce sensitivity in the surrounding tissue so healing skin is not further compromised.
Delivers broad-spectrum antibacterial support Sulfur, zinc oxide, capryloyl glycine, and neem seed oil each target acne-causing bacteria through different pathways, making this poultice effective even on persistent or inflamed blemishes.
-
If you deal with inflammatory acne, cystic spots, or blemishes that stay red and painful for days, this poultice is designed for exactly that. It works best on raised, active blemishes where infection is present beneath the surface rather than surface-level congestion like blackheads.
It is also a practical option for anyone who experiences occasional skin reactions beyond acne. The combination of montmorillonite clay, sulfur, and calming botanicals makes it suitable for use on bug bites, bee stings, and other localized areas of inflammation.
All skin types can use this poultice, including those with sensitive or reactive skin. The formula is fragrance-free from synthetic fragrances, and the botanical scent comes entirely from natural plant extracts and flower oils already serving a functional role in the formula.
-
Apply a thin layer over a blemish before your makeup and the natural green tint will quietly color-correct the redness underneath while the clay and salicylic acid work through the day. Keep your layer thin so it disappears into the skin rather than sitting on top of it.
-
Prepare: Apply after your BiON Salicylic-Glycolic Gel or Follicle Clearing Lotion has fully absorbed into the skin.
Apply: Dab a thin layer directly onto problem areas and rub in gently until it disappears into the skin. If the product clumps, the previous step was applied too heavily.
Technique: Use a thinner application in the morning and a slightly thicker layer in the evening for extended overnight absorption.
Frequency: Can be used morning and evening. Most effective when left on overnight as a targeted treatment.

What makes BiON Green Tea Clay Poultice different from a standard spot treatment?
Most spot treatments work only on the skin's surface. BiON Green Tea Clay Poultice uses montmorillonite clay to physically draw bacteria, excess oil, and impurities up and out of the pore while a combination of salicylic acid, sulfur, zinc oxide, and willow bark extract addresses the underlying triggers of acne from multiple angles. It also includes calming ingredients like oat betaglucan and gotu kola to support skin as it heals, which most basic spot treatments skip entirely.
Can I use BiON Green Tea Clay Poultice as a full-face mask?
Yes. While it is most commonly used as a targeted spot treatment, it can also be applied as an evening acne control mask over broader areas of concern. Apply a thin, even layer, allow it to work overnight, and follow your normal morning routine. Using it as a mask works particularly well during a breakout when multiple areas of the face are affected at once.
Is BiON Green Tea Clay Poultice safe for sensitive skin?
Yes, the formula is designed to be used across all skin types, including sensitive and reactive skin. Ingredients like oat betaglucan, calendula flower extract, licorice leaf extract, and gotu kola leaf extract are included specifically to reduce irritation and support the surrounding tissue while the active ingredients do their work. If your skin is particularly reactive, start with a thin application on a small area to gauge tolerance.
Will BiON Green Tea Clay Poultice work on blackheads?
BiON Green Tea Clay Poultice is most effective on raised, inflamed blemishes with active infection beneath the surface. It is not the right tool for blackheads, which require different chemistry to loosen and dissolve the oxidized sebum plugged inside the pore. For blackheads, a dedicated exfoliating or pore-clearing formula will produce better results.
What does the green tint in BiON Green Tea Clay Poultice do?
The green tint comes naturally from the green tea leaf extract and other botanical ingredients in the formula. When applied thinly over a red or inflamed blemish before makeup, the complementary color can visually neutralize some of the redness, functioning as a subtle color corrector while the active ingredients continue to work underneath.
Can BiON Green Tea Clay Poultice be used for things other than acne?
Yes. The drawing and anti-inflammatory properties of this poultice make it useful beyond acne. It has been used effectively on bug bites, bee stings, and other localized areas of skin inflammation and irritation. The same combination of montmorillonite clay, sulfur, zinc oxide, and botanical extracts that calms an inflamed blemish applies equally well to other reactive skin situations.
What is the pH of BiON Green Tea Clay Poultice, and why does it matter?
BiON Green Tea Clay Poultice is formulated at a pH of 3.8. This slightly acidic pH is important because it keeps salicylic acid in its active, effective form. Salicylic acid requires an acidic environment to penetrate the pore lining and work properly, so the pH of the formula directly affects how well it performs against acne-causing bacteria and congestion.

I’ve been using this every night. I put on a thin layer (I use about a pea size) followed with moisturizer. My skin has cleared up a lot. I was experiencing breakouts on my chin and jawline, and had 4 or 5 little cysts at a time. I’ve been using this product for over a month now, and my chin and jaw line is clear. The smell takes a bit of getting used to, but I like it now because of how effective this product is. It feels a bit gritty when going on and then putting moisturizer on top, but it blends in fine and you can’t tell that anything is on your face.

My facialist recommended this product. I use it as a mask or to dry out congestion. If you don't use too much it dissolves into your skin and can be worn during the day.

Great for Hormonal Cystic Acne
I struggle with hormonal acne, including large cysts that seem to linger for months. I applied this product directly to the cysts on my neck, and they were less inflamed and painful the next morning. I would give it 5 stars, but the smell is quite pungent. My cat particularly doesn't like it and refuses to sleep near me when I wear it. Lol.
