Rhonda Allison Salicylic "A" Serum is a targeted corrective serum built around two well-researched actives, salicylic acid and encapsulated retinol, to address congestion, breakouts, and uneven cell turnover at the same time. It works through the pore lining to dissolve the buildup that leads to blackheads and breakouts, while retinol works at the cellular level to normalize how skin sheds and regenerates. The formula is fragrance-free and free of AHAs, making it a reliable choice for anyone who reacts to alpha hydroxy acids but still needs consistent exfoliation and pore clearing.
Key Benefits
Clears Congestion and Reduces Breakouts Salicylic acid, a lipid-soluble BHA, penetrates into the pore lining to dissolve sebum, dead cell buildup, and the debris that leads to blackheads and active blemishes.
Prevents Microcomedones Before They Start Encapsulated retinol delivers vitamin A steadily into the skin, normalizing cell turnover at the follicle level so microcomedones are less likely to form in the first place.
Supports Skin Cell Renewal Retinol works over time to improve how consistently skin cells turn over, helping to reduce the texture and dullness that often accompany congested, acne-prone skin.
Calms Inflammation Salicylic acid has well-documented anti-inflammatory properties, helping to reduce the redness and irritation associated with active blemishes while it clears.
Gentle Enough for AHA-Sensitive Skin Because the formula relies on a BHA rather than AHAs, it delivers effective exfoliation without triggering the reactivity that AHAs can cause in sensitive, rosacea-prone, or easily irritated skin.

If your skin tends to stay congested no matter how often you cleanse, or if you cycle through breakouts that never fully resolve, this serum was formulated with your skin in mind. It is especially well-suited for oily, thick-textured, or acne-prone skin that needs consistent, chemical exfoliation to stay clear without the irritation that AHA-based products can cause.
This serum is also a strong fit for anyone dealing with both active breakouts and early signs of skin aging at the same time. Encapsulated retinol and salicylic acid together mean you are addressing pore congestion and cellular renewal in a single step.
If your skin reacts to AHAs, if you have been told to avoid alpha hydroxy acids due to sensitivity, or if you have rosacea-prone skin that still struggles with occasional breakouts, the BHA-only exfoliation approach here gives you effective clearing without the typical sting or flush.
-
If your skin is new to retinol or salicylic acid, start with one night per week and give your skin two full weeks before adding a second application. This lets the encapsulated retinol acclimate gradually so you get the clearing and renewal benefits without unnecessary peeling.

What does the salicylic acid in Rhonda Allison Salicylic "A" Serum actually do inside the pore?
Salicylic acid is lipid-soluble, which means it can travel through the sebum inside a pore rather than staying on the surface the way water-soluble acids do. Once inside, it dissolves the mix of dead skin cells and oil that forms clogs, which is what makes it effective for both blackheads and inflammatory breakouts. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that help calm redness around active blemishes while it clears.
Why does Rhonda Allison Salicylic "A" Serum use encapsulated retinol instead of standard retinol?
Encapsulation uses cyclodextrin to surround the retinol molecule and protect it from breaking down before it reaches the skin. This delivery method allows retinol to release more gradually and consistently, which reduces the irritation that can come with standard retinol while still supporting cell turnover and microcomedone prevention. For congested or acne-prone skin, that steady delivery means better long-term results with less disruption.
Can Rhonda Allison Salicylic "A" Serum be used if I have rosacea?
This serum is formulated without AHAs, which is one reason it appears in Rhonda Allison's lineup for AHA-sensitive and rosacea-prone skin. That said, rosacea exists on a spectrum, and active flares or highly reactive skin may still be sensitive to salicylic acid or retinol. A patch test is strongly recommended, and if you have active rosacea, checking with a licensed esthetician before starting is the best approach. You can book a free skincare consultation with our team.
How is Rhonda Allison Salicylic "A" Serum different from other acne serums that use AHAs?
AHAs like glycolic and lactic acid exfoliate at the surface of the skin and are water-soluble, so they work primarily on the outer layers. Salicylic acid works differently because it is oil-soluble and can penetrate into the pore itself. This makes it more effective at clearing the type of congestion that builds up inside follicles, especially in oily or thick-textured skin. It is also less likely to cause the stinging, flushing, or photosensitivity reactions that AHAs can trigger in sensitive skin.
How often should I use Rhonda Allison Salicylic "A" Serum?
The recommended starting frequency is 2 to 3 nights per week, leaving the serum on overnight and not rinsing. If you are new to retinol or salicylic acid, starting with one night per week and building up slowly over a few weeks gives your skin time to adjust. Some mild dryness or flaking during the first few weeks is normal and expected as cell turnover increases.
Is Rhonda Allison Salicylic "A" Serum safe to use with other actives in my routine?
Because this serum already combines a BHA and retinol, it is not recommended to layer it with other exfoliating acids such as AHAs, additional BHAs, or vitamin C at the same time. Using multiple exfoliants together increases the risk of barrier disruption and irritation. If you want to incorporate other actives into your routine, alternating nights or spacing them out is the safer approach. Our estheticians can help you map out a routine that works, and you can reach us through a free skincare consultation.
What ingredients are in Rhonda Allison Salicylic "A" Serum and is it vegan?
The full ingredient list is: Aqua (Water), Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water, Alcohol Denat., Glycerin, Alcohol, Retinol, Salicylic Acid, Cyclodextrin, Xanthan Gum, Carbomer. The formula is vegan and gluten-free, and it does not contain fragrance or AHAs.

I've been using this for a couple of weeks now. No issues with this. I've used stronger Retinols before that have irritated my skin but this does not. I don't see any changes or differences yet, so maybe it just takes more time. The only negative I have with the product is when I press down to squirt some in my hand it shoots out like crazy and goes everywhere. I've tried carefully to do this different ways but everytime it flies out all over my hand and beyond. Anyone else have this issue? All in all.. seems gentle enough for my sensative skin, hoping to see benefits soon.

Amazing
This retinol and salicylic acid serum is really nice, I had a ton of texture and pimples and this did clear it up after the initial purge phase which only lasted about 2 weeks. I have used retinols in the past but none like this, it's truly amazing but also pretty strong.. I use it every other night and would like to use it nightly but I'm being cautious. I love how it states this is for people with rosacea and acne because I feel that that is an important thing to note for people who may be scared of retinols. The smell is kind of odd but it doesn't bother me and it's bright yellow. My skin looks so radiant when I apply it too. I will continue purchasing this.
