Skinbetter AlphaRet Clearing Serum
Skinbetter AlphaRet Clearing Serum is a retinoid serum built specifically for oilier, breakout-prone skin that still wants the anti-aging benefits of a retinoid without the typical dryness and flaking. It pairs skinbetter's patented AlphaRet Technology, which combines a retinoid and an alpha hydroxy acid (lactic acid) into a single molecule, with salicylic acid and a targeted blend of pore-refining, soothing, and hydrating ingredients. The result is clearer-looking skin that also appears smoother, more even in tone, and visibly younger.
Key Benefits
Clearer, less congested skin with fewer visible breakouts Salicylic acid works inside the pore to dissolve oil and debris, while oligopeptide-10 supports a healthier skin surface so blemishes are less likely to linger.
Anti-aging correction with minimal irritation Patented AlphaRet Technology (ethyl lactyl retinoate combined with lactic acid) delivers retinoid and exfoliating benefits in a single step, with significantly less dryness and flaking than using a traditional retinoid and AHA separately.
Refined pores and reduced surface shine Zinc PCA helps regulate excess oil production while niacinamide visibly tightens the appearance of pores and evens out skin tone over time.
Soothed, protected skin barrier Bisabolol, boswellia serrata extract, and camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract calm redness and sensitivity so skin stays comfortable, even during nightly use.
Lasting hydration without heaviness Sodium hyaluronate and glycerin attract and hold moisture in the skin, keeping it balanced and comfortable rather than tight or stripped.
If your skin is oily or breakout-prone and you've been avoiding retinoids because they tend to dry you out or make flaking worse, this serum was designed for exactly that situation. It brings together acne-clearing actives and anti-aging retinoid technology in one lightweight formula.
It's also a strong choice if you're dealing with enlarged pores, uneven texture, post-blemish discoloration, or excess shine and you want to address those concerns alongside fine lines and early signs of aging.
If you have very sensitive or dry skin that rarely breaks out, a non-clearing AlphaRet formula may be a better fit. Not sure which version is right for you? Reach out for a free skincare consultation.
Apply: In the evening, spread a thin layer over a clean, dry face, avoiding the eye area.
Frequency: Use nightly as part of your evening skincare routine. If you are new to retinoids, start with every other evening and gradually increase to nightly use as your skin adjusts.
Protect: Follow with a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning. Retinoid and AHA use increases sun sensitivity, so daily SPF is essential.

What is AlphaRet Technology in Skinbetter AlphaRet Clearing Serum?
AlphaRet Technology is skinbetter's patented approach that combines a retinoid (ethyl lactyl retinoate) and an alpha hydroxy acid (lactic acid) into a single conjugate molecule. This allows both actives to work together with significantly less irritation, dryness, and flaking than layering a separate retinoid and AHA. It's what sets this serum apart from standard retinol or prescription retinoid products.
How is Skinbetter AlphaRet Clearing Serum different from the original AlphaRet serum?
The Clearing Serum is specifically formulated for oilier, blemish-prone skin. It includes salicylic acid to clear pores, zinc PCA to help control excess oil, and oligopeptide-10 to support a clearer complexion. The original AlphaRet is geared more toward anti-aging concerns without the acne-focused actives.
Will Skinbetter AlphaRet Clearing Serum cause dryness or peeling?
Most users experience little to no dryness or flaking thanks to the patented AlphaRet Technology, which is engineered to deliver retinoid and AHA benefits with reduced irritation. Hydrating ingredients like sodium hyaluronate and glycerin also help keep the skin balanced. If you are new to retinoids, easing in with every-other-night use can help your skin adjust smoothly.
Can Skinbetter AlphaRet Clearing Serum help with large pores and oily skin?
Yes. Zinc PCA helps regulate sebum production so skin looks less shiny throughout the day. Niacinamide and salicylic acid work together to visibly reduce the appearance of enlarged pores by keeping them clear and tightening their surrounding structure over consistent use.
Can I use other exfoliating products with Skinbetter AlphaRet Clearing Serum?
Because this serum already contains lactic acid (AHA) and salicylic acid (BHA) alongside a retinoid, layering additional exfoliants increases the risk of irritation. If you currently use other exfoliating products, alternate them on different nights rather than applying them together. Listen to your skin and scale back if you notice redness or sensitivity.
Is Skinbetter AlphaRet Clearing Serum fragrance-free?
Yes. Skinbetter AlphaRet Clearing Serum is formulated without fragrance, parabens, and dyes. It is also dermatologist tested, making it suitable for skin that tends to be reactive or easily irritated by added scents.
Do I need to wear sunscreen while using Skinbetter AlphaRet Clearing Serum?
Absolutely. The lactic acid and retinoid in this serum increase your skin's sensitivity to UV exposure. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning and reapply as directed throughout the day. Consistent sun protection also helps preserve the tone and texture improvements you'll see from using this serum.

Based on the name and ingredients, you would think this serum would be "spicy", but not at all! My skin, which can be reactive & fickle at times, loooooves this serum and is tolerating it so well. I'm also surprised by how fast it's working on smoothing out my skin and clearing congestion! My new favorite nighttime corrective treatment! Also a plus that it plays well with other products!
