BiON Mandelic Serum
BiON Mandelic Serum is a corrective acid serum that targets acne breakouts, uneven skin tone, and clogged pores through a layered approach to exfoliation and pigment control. At its core, mandelic acid works as both an antibacterial and exfoliant, regulating sebum production, clearing pores, and accelerating cell turnover to reduce the recurrence of breakouts and fade post-inflammatory discoloration. This serum is available in two strengths: an 8% concentration for facial use and a 15% concentration intended for body use only. Both formulas carry a light, citrus-herbal scent from orange peel oil, lemongrass oil, and lavender oil.
Key Benefits
Clears Pores and Reduces Breakouts Mandelic acid's antibacterial properties target acne-causing bacteria at the surface while regulating sebum production to help prevent future breakouts from forming.
Fades Dark Spots and Uneven Tone Mandelic acid and azelaic acid work together to break up pigment clusters caused by sun damage, hormonal changes, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), visibly evening skin tone over time.
Exfoliates Without Stripping Lactic acid and mandelic acid encourage steady cell turnover and surface exfoliation, helping to smooth texture and reduce the appearance of acne scarring without aggressive irritation.
Calms Inflammation and Redness Niacinamide reinforces the skin barrier and reduces redness associated with active breakouts, working alongside azelaic acid's known anti-inflammatory properties to keep reactive skin more comfortable.
Supports Moisture Retention Sodium hyaluronate, sodium PCA, and witch hazel extract help the skin hold onto hydration during the exfoliation process, with the formulation boosted to support moisture retention by up to 84%.
If you deal with recurring breakouts, oily or congested skin, or stubborn dark spots left behind after acne clears, the 8% BiON Mandelic Serum is built for your concerns. It works equally well for those managing hormonal discoloration or melasma who want an acid serum that addresses pigment and pore health at the same time.
Because mandelic acid has a larger molecular size than many other alpha-hydroxy acids, it absorbs more slowly and tends to be better tolerated by sensitive and darker skin tones, making this a strong option for those who have reacted to stronger acids like glycolic in the past.
The 15% concentration is formulated exclusively for body use, making it well-suited for addressing bacne, body discoloration, or rough, congested skin on areas like the chest, shoulders, or back.
Start with the every-other-day schedule and resist the urge to increase frequency too quickly. Mandelic acid works gradually and steadily, and giving your skin time to acclimate in those first two weeks will minimize initial flaking and set you up for much more consistent results long-term.
Prepare: After cleansing and toning, make sure skin is clean and fully dry before applying.
Apply: Dispense a small amount and spread evenly over the treatment area.
Frequency: Begin every other day for the first two weeks, then transition to once daily or as directed by your esthetician.
Follow: Finish with your preferred moisturizer. If applying in the morning or going outdoors, always follow with a broad-spectrum SPF, as acid exfoliants increase sun sensitivity.
- Mandelic Acid: An alpha-hydroxy acid that brightens, suppresses hyperpigmentation, and enhances cell turnover.
- Lactic Acid (10%): An alpha-hydroxy acid that improves skin tone, smooths texture, and reduces the appearance of dark spots.
- Azelaic Acid (2%): Gently clears pores of bacteria while diminishing hyperpigmentation by reducing melanin production and calming inflammation.
- Niacinamide: A multitasking form of vitamin B3 that helps balance oil, strengthen the skin barrier, and improve uneven tone and texture while calming redness for healthier looking skin.
15%: Deionized Water (Aqua), Mandelic Acid, Lactic Acid, Propylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract), Sodium Hyaluronate, Niacinamide, Azelaic Acid, Sodium PCA, Citrus Sinensis (Orange) Peel Oil, Cymbopogon Flexuosus (Lemongrass) Oil, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil (Sunflower Oil), Lavandula Angustifolia Oil (Lavender Oil), Xanthan Gum, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate. Glycerin Tetrasodium EDTA

What concentration of BiON Mandelic Serum should I use on my face?
The 8% BiON Mandelic Serum is the appropriate strength for facial use. The 15% concentration is formulated for body use only, as the higher acid concentration and lower pH (2.0) make it too aggressive for facial skin. If you are unsure which strength is right for your specific concerns, our estheticians are happy to help you decide.
Can BiON Mandelic Serum help with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)?
Yes. Mandelic acid and azelaic acid work together to break up surface pigment clusters associated with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, hormonal discoloration, and sun damage. Consistent use alongside SPF protection supports the most visible improvement in skin tone over time.
Is BiON Mandelic Serum suitable for sensitive skin?
Mandelic acid has a larger molecular weight than glycolic acid, which means it penetrates more slowly and is generally better tolerated by sensitive or reactive skin types. The formula also includes sodium hyaluronate, sodium PCA, and witch hazel extract to support hydration and skin comfort throughout exfoliation. Starting on an every-other-day schedule further reduces the chance of irritation.
How does BiON Mandelic Serum help with acne?
Mandelic acid has documented antibacterial properties that help reduce acne-causing bacteria at the skin's surface while also regulating sebum production to help prevent pore congestion from returning. Azelaic acid contributes additional anti-inflammatory support, and niacinamide helps calm redness around active breakouts.
Can I use BiON Mandelic Serum if I have melasma?
Mandelic acid and azelaic acid both have research supporting their use in addressing hyperpigmentation, including melasma driven by hormonal factors. Because mandelic acid is gentler than many other acids used for pigment correction, it is often a well-tolerated option for those managing melasma. Consistent SPF use is essential when using any acid-based treatment for pigment concerns.
Does BiON Mandelic Serum contain fragrance?
The serum does contain natural fragrant oils, specifically orange peel oil, lemongrass oil, and lavender oil, which give it a light citrus-herbal scent. These are naturally derived botanical oils rather than synthetic fragrance. If you have a known sensitivity to essential oils, we recommend checking with one of our estheticians before using this serum.
How long does it take to see results from BiON Mandelic Serum?
Most users begin to notice improved skin texture and reduced breakout frequency within the first few weeks of consistent use. Pigment correction and visible reduction in dark spots or acne scarring typically take longer, often eight to twelve weeks of regular use, since those changes depend on steady cell turnover. Using SPF daily is critical to protecting progress.

I got the 15% version due to repeat body acne on my chest and shoulders and this cleared it up! I’ll still get pimples, but nowhere near the amount, severity, or frequency. I use it 2-3x a week depending on how my skin is doing and it just keeps things at bay. Love it!

Seeing great results in dark spots and overall pigmentation. Great thing to add to my routine. I do not like the fragrance added to this, but doesn’t last too long.

Face Reality products overall are getting more expensive and I’m budgeting over here. I tried this serum out to see if I can replace FR Mandela Serum. So far, no complaint. It is more liquidity than FR but I find it easier to spread and doesn’t dry as quickly. I am able to get my entire face with a single pump while I age to do at least 2-3 pumps with FR.
Looking forward to seeing the results!
