Dr. esthé Enzyme Deep Clear Powder Wash
Dr. esthé Enzyme Deep Clear Powder Wash is a powdered enzyme cleanser that transforms into a creamy foam at the point of contact with water, delivering a thorough cleanse without stripping the skin's moisture barrier. It combines dual plant-based enzymes with brightening and soothing botanicals to clear congestion, refine pores, and even skin tone with every wash. It carries a light natural fragrance.
Key Benefits
Dissolves surface buildup without abrasion Papain (from papaya) and bromelain (from pineapple) are proteolytic enzymes that break down the bonds holding dead skin cells and debris to the surface, clearing congestion without the friction of a physical scrub.
Visibly tightens and clarifies pores Corn starch and rice powder absorb excess oil at the skin's surface, helping pores appear tighter and skin look less congested after each use.
Brightens and evens skin tone Licorice root powder contains glabridin, a naturally derived compound shown to inhibit melanin production, making it a reliable ingredient for fading discoloration and promoting a more uniform complexion over time.
Supports the skin's moisture levels while it cleanses Sodium hyaluronate draws moisture into the skin, while allantoin soothes and softens, so the skin feels comfortable and balanced rather than tight after rinsing.
Calms while it clears Aloe barbadensis leaf powder and camellia sinensis leaf powder deliver antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support, making this cleanser a good fit for skin that is reactive or prone to redness.
If your skin tends toward congestion, enlarged pores, or uneven texture, this powdered enzyme cleanser was built with your skin type in mind. It is particularly well suited for oily and combination skin that accumulates excess oil throughout the day, as well as acne-prone skin that needs a thorough cleanse without the irritation that comes with harsher exfoliating methods.
Dry skin types that experience surface flaking will also benefit from the enzymatic exfoliation, which lifts dead cells without the drying effect of foaming cleansers formulated with sulfates. The addition of sodium hyaluronate and allantoin keeps the skin balanced even with regular use.
If you are working on hyperpigmentation, post-acne marks, or dullness, the licorice root powder and dual-enzyme action make this an effective daily step for gradually brightening the complexion while keeping the pores clean.
For a more intensive treatment, mix the powder with a small amount of water in your palm to form a slightly thicker paste and leave it on the skin for 60 seconds before massaging and rinsing. This gives the papain and bromelain enzymes more contact time to break down buildup, which is especially useful if you are dealing with congested or textured areas.
Prepare: Dispense a small amount of powder into a dry palm.
Apply: Wet your other hand and rub both hands together to activate the powder into a creamy foam.
Technique: Gently massage onto the face in circular motions for two full minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Frequency: Use daily, morning or evening. Follow with your toner, serum, and moisturizer. If using in the morning, finish with an SPF.
- Pineapple (Bromelain): Nutrient-rich natural fruit enzyme, increases cell turnover and brightens the skin.
- Papaya (Papain): Natural enzymes that promote gentle exfoliation and provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.
- Allantoin: Calms mild inflammation irritation while moisturizing and promoting cell renewal.
- Licorice Root Extract: Brightening and anti-inflammatory agent that balances skin tone and helps inhibit hyperpigmentation.
- Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract: Moisturizes, soothes, and softens the skin, while calming inflammation and reducing redness.

How does Dr. esthé Enzyme Deep Clear Powder Wash differ from a traditional foam cleanser?
Unlike a pre-formulated foam cleanser, Dr. esthé Enzyme Deep Clear Powder Wash activates only at the moment it contacts water, which keeps the enzymes stable and potent until use. This format also allows you to control the concentration, using more or less powder depending on your skin's needs that day.
What enzymes are in Dr. esthé Enzyme Deep Clear Powder Wash and what do they do?
The formula contains both papain, derived from papaya, and bromelain, derived from pineapple. Both are proteolytic enzymes, meaning they break down the keratin proteins that hold dead skin cells together, clearing surface buildup and debris without physical scrubbing. Using two enzymes together broadens the effectiveness of the exfoliation.
Is Dr. esthé Enzyme Deep Clear Powder Wash safe for sensitive or reactive skin?
Yes, with some consideration. The enzymatic exfoliation in Dr. esthé Enzyme Deep Clear Powder Wash is gentler than mechanical exfoliants, and ingredients like allantoin and aloe barbadensis leaf powder help calm the skin during use. That said, if your skin is very reactive to active ingredients, we recommend starting with use two to three times per week to assess tolerance before making it a daily step.
Will Dr. esthé Enzyme Deep Clear Powder Wash help with hyperpigmentation or dark spots?
It can contribute meaningfully over time. The licorice root powder in the formula contains glabridin, a naturally derived compound that inhibits the enzyme responsible for melanin production, making it effective for fading post-acne marks and uneven discoloration with consistent use. Pairing this cleanser with a targeted brightening serum will produce more noticeable results.
How often should I use Dr. esthé Enzyme Deep Clear Powder Wash?
Dr. esthé Enzyme Deep Clear Powder Wash is formulated for daily use, morning or evening. Most skin types tolerate it well once daily. If you are using other active exfoliants in your routine, such as a glycolic acid toner or retinol, you may want to use this cleanser on alternating days to avoid over-exfoliating.
Does Dr. esthé Enzyme Deep Clear Powder Wash contain any ingredients that help with hydration?
Yes. Despite its exfoliating function, the formula includes sodium hyaluronate, which attracts and holds moisture in the skin, and allantoin, which has a soothing and softening effect. These ingredients help offset the potential dryness that can come with frequent exfoliating cleansers, leaving skin comfortable after rinsing.
Is Dr. esthé Enzyme Deep Clear Powder Wash good for acne-prone skin?
Yes. The dual enzyme system clears the dead skin cells and sebum that contribute to clogged pores and breakouts, while corn starch and rice powder absorb excess oil at the surface. The formula is also free of heavy oils or pore-blocking ingredients, making it a practical daily cleanser for skin that is prone to congestion and breakouts.

The reviews don't lie! I can't live without this product now. My aesthetician swore by this and I am so happy I purchased it. My skin has improved in texture and I am left with soft skin that isn't dried out. If concerned about the fact that it is an exfoliant, don't be. It is super gentle!

I use this gentle exfoliation every other day, and I look forward to it each time. It’s similar to the Dermalogica rice powder cleanser from a long time ago- but just way better. Skin is never stripped afterwards, and it’s a nice step after a gel cleanser to have your skin feeling super supple. Very pleasantly surprised by this one. Also a very pleasant light smell- maybe the pineapple? A little goes a long way.

This is a perfect addition to a skin care regime. It is so fine, so no rough, gritty product. It gently exfoliates and leaves skin feeling smooth and so clean. I love to use it in my routine two to three times a week since it is so gentle. Not like those abrasive exfoliators that feel like a brillo pad on your delicate skin. I highly recommend this, and once again, AOSC has all of your skin care needs in one convenient website!

I was initially really confused about the concept of this being a powder. You actually only need a small amount to lather onto your face. I use it twice a week and love how clean it makes my face feel.
