Epicutis Arctigenin Brightening Treatment
Epicutis Arctigenin Brightening Treatment is a lightweight, plant-based treatment that targets dark spots, uneven skin tone, and dullness using a blend of clinically backed botanical actives and antioxidant support. Formulated without fragrance and gentle enough for daily use, it absorbs quickly and layers seamlessly into any routine.
Key Benefits
Fades Dark Spots and Evens Skin Tone Arctium lappa seed oil, the source of Epicutis's proprietary ABSO extract, delivers the brightening lignan arctigenin directly to areas of pigmentation, helping to visibly reduce dark spots without causing sun sensitivity.
Long-Lasting Hydration Without a Heavy Feel Salvia hispanica (chia) seed oil, the basis of the patented HYVIA® complex, provides sustained moisture replenishment, making this treatment hydrating enough to double as a daily moisturizer for oily and combination skin types.
Antioxidant Defense Against Environmental Stress Tocopherol and ferulic acid work together to neutralize free radicals generated by blue light and pollution, protecting skin from the oxidative stress that contributes to uneven tone over time.
Soothes Skin and Supports Barrier Recovery Squalane and pinus strobus bark extract help calm redness and reinforce the skin barrier, making this treatment well suited for post-procedure use and reactive skin.
Calms Inflammation Without Sensitizing Skin Disodium S-phytyl diglycoloylcysteine contributes additional soothing and antioxidant activity, helping to reduce the inflammation that can trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after procedures or breakouts.
If you are dealing with dark spots, melasma, post-acne marks, or an uneven skin tone that shifts with the seasons, this treatment was formulated with your concerns in mind. It works consistently across skin tones without causing sun sensitivity, so it can be used year-round, including through summer months when many brightening actives require extra caution.
This treatment is also an excellent fit for anyone preparing for or recovering from professional procedures such as chemical peels, laser treatments, or facials. Its gentle, clean formula means it can be introduced into the skin before treatment to prep, and reintroduced shortly after to help calm inflammation and minimize the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Oily and combination skin types often find this treatment hydrating enough to replace a separate moisturizer in their routine, while dry skin types may prefer to layer it under a richer cream in the evening.
If you are prone to dark spots or melasma after facials, peels, or laser treatments, start using Arctigenin Brightening Treatment in the 10 to 14 days before your appointment to prime skin, then reintroduce it 24 to 48 hours post-procedure, up to four times daily, to calm inflammation and help prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation before it has a chance to form.
Prepare: Apply to clean skin on the face, neck, and décolleté.
Apply: Use a pea-sized amount and smooth on using gentle, upward strokes to encourage absorption.
Frequency: Use morning and evening for best brightening results. For post-procedure support, wait 24 to 48 hours after your treatment, then reintroduce up to four times daily as needed to help calm skin and support recovery. To prepare for an in-office procedure, begin use 10 to 14 days in advance.
- ABSO (Arctigenin-Enriched Burdock Seed Oil): Cutting-edge brightening ingredient that harnesses the power of burdock seed oil, supercharged with arctigenin to visibly even skin tone and reveal a more radiant, luminous complexion.
- Hyvia: A next-generation moisturizing ingredient derived from organic chia seed oil that delivers concentrated omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids to deeply hydrate, calm inflammation, and visibly reduce fine lines and signs of aging at the cellular level.
- DSD (Disodium S-phytyl Diglycoloylcysteine): A powerful antioxidant that protects against external stressors like uv damage and pollution. The perfect vitamin c alternative!
- Ferulic Acid: An antioxidant that works to boost the effects of other antioxidants. Helps to protect overall skin integrity by reducing the development of fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots.
Water, Squalane, Propanediol, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Arctium Lappa Seed Oil, Triethyl Citrate, Pinus Strobus Bark Extract, Salvia Hispanica Seed Oil, Disodium S-Phytyl Diglycoloylcysteine, Tocopherol, Ferulic Acid, Maltodextrin, Stearyl Alcohol, Steareth-20, Sodium Phytate, Carbomer, Potassium Hydroxide
What makes the Epicutis Arctigenin Brightening Treatment different from other brightening treatments?
Most brightening treatments rely on ingredients like vitamin C or kojic acid that can cause irritation or increase sun sensitivity. Epicutis Arctigenin Brightening Treatment uses ABSO, a proprietary extract derived from burdock seed oil, to target pigmentation through a botanical pathway that does not sensitize skin to sunlight. This makes it usable year-round, including during summer, without requiring additional sun precautions beyond your standard SPF.
What is ABSO and what does it do in the Epicutis Arctigenin Brightening Treatment?
ABSO is Epicutis's proprietary extract sourced from arctium lappa (burdock) seed oil, and it delivers arctigenin, the active brightening compound, directly to areas of pigmentation. Arctigenin works to visibly reduce dark spots and even skin tone without causing irritation or photosensitivity. It is the core brightening driver in this formula.
What is HYVIA® and why is it included in the Epicutis Arctigenin Brightening Treatment?
HYVIA® is a patented moisturizing complex derived from salvia hispanica (chia) seed oil that provides sustained hydration throughout the day. It gives the Epicutis Arctigenin Brightening Treatment enough moisturizing power that oily and combination skin types often use it in place of a separate moisturizer. For drier skin, it layers well under a richer cream in the evening.
Can the Epicutis Arctigenin Brightening Treatment be used on post-procedure skin?
Yes, it is well suited for post-procedure recovery. After a chemical peel, laser treatment, or facial, wait 24 to 48 hours and then reintroduce the treatment, using it up to four times daily as needed. The squalane, ferulic acid, and pinus strobus bark extract in the formula help calm inflammation and support barrier recovery during the healing window.
Is the Epicutis Arctigenin Brightening Treatment safe to use in the summer?
Yes. Unlike alpha arbutin or high-concentration vitamin C formulas, the Epicutis Arctigenin Brightening Treatment does not increase photosensitivity, so it can be used through summer months without concern. Standard daily SPF use is always recommended regardless of which brightening treatment you use.
How long does it take to see results from the Epicutis Arctigenin Brightening Treatment?
Consistent twice-daily use is key to visible brightening results. Most users begin to notice improvements in tone and the appearance of dark spots over several weeks of regular use. For concerns like melasma or deeper hyperpigmentation, a longer commitment of six to twelve weeks is more realistic.
Is the Epicutis Arctigenin Brightening Treatment suitable for sensitive skin?
This treatment was designed with sensitivity in mind. It is preservative-free and fragrance-free, and the formula relies on botanical actives rather than high-dose acids or exfoliants that commonly trigger irritation. The squalane and disodium S-phytyl diglycoloylcysteine in the formula add a soothing layer that helps calm reactive skin rather than stress it further.

Im starting to see results, I had to repurchase this product again! Also a plus because it works as a moisturizer also! If you have oily skin it was recommended to use as a daily moisturizer which I like cause it saves me a time getting ready not having to apply another moisturizer. ✨

I have pigmentation and I have tried a lot of products. I really like this line of products and was excited to try this for brightening. I have been using this product for a little over a month now and I have unfortunately not noticed anything.

This is one of those products that I hesitated to buy because of the price but after having great success with other products from this line I decided to give it a try. So happy I did. Wow! Within just a few days I noticed a big improvement in the texture and tone of my skin. It is soothing and restorative. Glides on smoothly, absorbs quickly and visibly brightens my skin. My face feels so soft, seriously soft and nourished. The clean, high quality list of ingredients and philosophy that it's not just about the appearance but the overall health of the skin is exactly what I'm looking for in everything that goes in and on my body. Epicutis is making it easy for me to streamline my skincare routine.

I can't say I noticed a huge difference yet, but I use several products. I do like the absorption and hydration I get from this treatment. Time will tell, but so far, so good.

Now I only gave 4 stars because personally haven’t seen a difference in my skin being lighter. Now that could be because I don’t have dark pigments . However I still love this product and would definitely recommend. I also believe that just because you don’t notice anything on the surface right away doesn’t mean it’s not working deep down . My face love this skincare line 10/10
