Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation
Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation is an oil-free liquid mineral foundation with SPF 20 that delivers medium coverage and an all-day matte finish without the need for powder or blotting. The formula is built around zinc oxide and titanium dioxide as its active sunscreen ingredients, giving you broad-spectrum SPF 20 protection while evening out skin tone and concealing blemishes in one step. It is highly water resistant and formulated to hold up through sweat and humidity, making it a reliable choice for long wear.
Key Benefits
Matte finish that lasts all day Hydrated silica and silica work together to absorb excess oil and control shine throughout the day, so skin stays fresh-looking without midday blotting.
Broad-spectrum SPF 20 sun protection Zinc oxide (7%) and titanium dioxide (2.4%) provide mineral sun protection that sits on top of the skin rather than absorbing into it, making this a gentler option for reactive skin types.
Medium coverage that conceals without heaviness A high pigment concentration using iron oxides and titanium dioxide means a pea-sized amount is all you need to even out skin tone and cover blemishes without a heavy or cakey feel.
Skin conditioning during wear Panthenol (provitamin B5) and glycerin are included to support hydration at the skin's surface, so the matte finish does not translate to a tight or dry sensation.
Water-resistant, transfer-resistant wear The formula is engineered to resist rubbing, sweating, and water, so coverage stays in place through an active day without requiring touch-ups.
Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation is best suited for oily, combination, acne-prone, and sensitive skin types that struggle to keep shine under control throughout the day. If you reach for blotting papers or powder by midday, or if your foundation slides off before afternoon, this formula is built to address exactly that.
It is also a strong option for anyone who wants their foundation to do double duty as sun protection. The mineral SPF 20 makes it especially well-suited for those who prefer to avoid chemical sunscreen filters, including those with reactive or sensitivity-prone skin.
Available in five shades from Amalfi Alabaster to Tuscan Toast, this foundation is fragrance-free, paraben-free, vegan, and cruelty-free.
For lighter, more natural-looking coverage, try blending equal parts of the Mattifying formula with the Illuminare Moisturizing formula directly on the back of your hand before applying. This lets you dial in your coverage level and customize your finish without having to choose between the two formulas entirely.
Prepare: Start with a clean face and apply your moisturizer or makeup primer. Allow it to absorb before applying foundation.
Apply: Dispense a pea-sized amount onto your fingertips or a foundation brush. More product is rarely needed, as the formula is highly pigmented.
Technique: Pat onto the center of the face and blend outward, working one area at a time. Add a small amount of additional product only where more coverage is needed, such as around the nose.
Frequency: Use daily as your foundation and SPF step in one.

How much coverage does Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation actually provide?
Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation delivers medium coverage that evens out skin tone and conceals blemishes without feeling heavy. Because the formula is highly pigmented, a pea-sized amount is enough for a full-face application, which keeps the coverage buildable without becoming cakey.
Is Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation safe for acne-prone skin?
Yes. Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation is oil-free and built around mineral pigments and sunscreen actives, making it a suitable option for acne-prone and blemish-prone skin. The formula avoids common pore-clogging ingredients and is fragrance-free and paraben-free, which also makes it a good fit for sensitive skin.
Does Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation replace my sunscreen?
Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation contains SPF 20 from zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which provides a meaningful layer of broad-spectrum mineral sun protection. For everyday activities with limited sun exposure, this may be sufficient when applied properly. For extended outdoor time, you may want a dedicated SPF underneath.
How is Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation different from a traditional liquid foundation?
Unlike most conventional liquid foundations, Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation uses mineral actives (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) as both its pigment base and its sunscreen, rather than synthetic dyes and chemical UV filters. It also carries a significantly higher pigment concentration than most non-mineral foundations, which is why only a pea-sized amount provides medium coverage.
What is the best way to apply Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation?
Apply Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation immediately after your moisturizer or primer while the skin still has a slight slip to it. Dispense a pea-sized amount and pat onto the center of the face, then blend outward one section at a time. Fingers work well for overall coverage, while a brush gives more precision in areas like around the nose.
Can Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation be mixed with other foundations or formulas?
Yes, and it is encouraged. You can blend Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation with the Illuminare Moisturizing formula to soften the finish or reduce coverage. Simply squeeze a pea-sized amount of each onto a brush or the back of your hand and they will blend together smoothly. You can also mix shades to customize your color match.
Is Illuminare Mattifying Mineral Foundation truly water resistant?
Yes. The formula is engineered to be highly water resistant and to resist transferring from rubbing or sweating, which is part of what makes it suitable for all-day wear without needing powder or blotting on top. This also makes it a practical option for active lifestyles or humid climates.

This foundation helped with my acne soo much! When i have inflamed acne I apply this foundation on top (if skin isn't broken) & it will help it get smaller by the end of the day, however if you have dry skin this foundation could be a hassle because it will crack on dry spots & expose the dryness even more!

I love this foundation more than I expected. It has great coverage, feels clean (not greasy), and the color somehow blends well even though there aren't very many options. I mix it with a drop of Sorella Quench and Thirst and it works great

Don't like the coverage
I really didn't like this product. It made my face look cakey. I'm always looking for sunscreen foundations that make it look like I'm not wearing anything at all - this is not that product.
