iS Clinical SHEALD Recovery Balm
iS Clinical SHEALD Recovery Balm is a pH-balanced occlusive barrier repair balm designed to protect, hydrate, and restore skin that is recovering from professional treatments, chronic sensitivity, or barrier damage. Fragrance-free and formulated with a carefully layered lipid system, it addresses compromised skin on multiple levels rather than simply coating the surface.
Key Benefits
Rebuilds Your Skin Barrier with Ceramides A trio of ceramides, ceramide NP, ceramide AP, and ceramide EOP, replenishes the essential lipids your barrier loses to over-exfoliation, environmental stress, and professional treatments, reducing moisture loss and helping skin resist irritants.
Locks In Moisture Continuously Sodium hyaluronate and glycerin attract and bind water to the skin, while petrolatum creates an occlusive seal that prevents that hydration from evaporating, keeping skin comfortable and relieved of dryness throughout the day.
Calms Redness and Sensitivity Panthenol (provitamin B5) and oat kernel extract work to quiet visible redness and reactive skin, making this balm a reliable option immediately after procedures or during flare-ups of sensitivity.
Shields Vulnerable Skin from Free Radical Damage Tocopherol (vitamin E) and beta-glucan provide antioxidant support to protect compromised skin from environmental stressors that can slow the healing process.
Creates an Optimal Environment for Post-Procedure Recovery The petrolatum-based occlusive layer seals in active ingredients and maintains the moisture levels your skin needs to recover efficiently after laser resurfacing, chemical peels, microneedling, or dermaplaning.
If your skin is recovering from a professional treatment such as laser resurfacing, a chemical peel, microneedling, or dermaplaning, this balm delivers the occlusive protection and lipid support your compromised barrier needs to heal properly. It is equally well-suited for anyone whose barrier has been disrupted by over-exfoliation, harsh weather, or chronic dryness.
Ideal for sensitive, reactive, or eczema-prone skin that needs restorative hydration without fragrance, unnecessary actives, or anything that could provoke further irritation. The pH of 5.5 mirrors your skin's natural acid mantle, making this balm appropriate even during periods of heightened sensitivity when most products feel like too much.
If you are managing tattoo aftercare, wind-chapped or winter-damaged skin, or any condition that has left your barrier struggling, the occlusive seal and ceramide complex work together to give your skin the stable, protected environment it needs to recover.
At night, layer SHEALD Recovery Balm over your treatment serums as the final step. The petrolatum occlusive seal slows transepidermal water loss and keeps your serums in contact with the skin longer, helping you get more from actives like retinoids without increasing irritation.
Daily Maintenance: After cleansing and toning, apply to face, neck, and chest morning and evening.
AM Routine: Follow with SPF as the final step.
Post-Procedure: Apply generously to the affected area as needed throughout the day to support healing and maintain continuous barrier protection.
- Sodium Hyaluronate: The purest, salt form of hyaluronic acid, a master humectant that holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water to provide maximum hydration and plumping benefits to thirsty skin.
- Glycerin: Provides long-lasting, intense moisture retention.
- Ceramides: Essential lipids found naturally in the skin that help maintain healthy barrier function to seal in moisture and keep skin hydrated.
- Vitamin E (Tocopherol): Soothes, brightens, and helps reverse and protect against environmental damage.
- Beta Glucan: A deeply hydrating, barrier-strengthening ingredient that helps calm redness, support skin recovery, and improve resilience, making it ideal for sensitive or acne-prone skin.
- Panthenol (Vitamin B5): A powerful natural moisturizer, healer, and protector that rebuilds the barrier and acts as a shield against irritation.

What makes iS Clinical SHEALD Recovery Balm different from a regular moisturizer?
SHEALD Recovery Balm is a barrier repair treatment, not simply a hydrator. The combination of three ceramides, petrolatum occlusion, sodium hyaluronate, and glycerin addresses compromised skin at multiple levels: replacing missing lipids, sealing in moisture, and creating a stable environment for healing. Most standard moisturizers hydrate the surface but do not actively rebuild barrier function the way this formulation does.
Can I use iS Clinical SHEALD Recovery Balm on skin that is irritated from acne treatments?
Yes, particularly if your barrier is compromised from aggressive acne therapies like retinoids or benzoyl peroxide. The fragrance-free formula includes calming panthenol and oat kernel extract to reduce irritation, and the petrolatum base is non-comedogenic, so it will not clog pores. Apply it only to affected areas if you have combination or oily skin.
How soon after a professional treatment can I start using iS Clinical SHEALD Recovery Balm?
In most cases, it can be applied immediately post-procedure unless your provider instructs otherwise. The occlusive formula is specifically designed for post-treatment care after chemical peels, laser resurfacing, microneedling, and similar in-office treatments, providing barrier protection from the first application.
Will iS Clinical SHEALD Recovery Balm feel greasy on my skin?
The texture is richer and more occlusive than a standard facial moisturizer because of the petrolatum content, which is intentional for barrier repair. If you have oily or combination skin, you may prefer using it only at night or on dry areas. For compromised, dehydrated, or post-procedure skin, the texture is designed to feel soothing and protective rather than heavy.
Can I wear makeup over iS Clinical SHEALD Recovery Balm?
Yes. Allow the balm a few minutes to settle before applying makeup. If you find the texture too occlusive for daytime wear, apply a thin layer or reserve it for your nighttime routine and use a lighter moisturizer during the day.
Does iS Clinical SHEALD Recovery Balm contain fragrance or other potential irritants?
This formula is fragrance-free to minimize the risk of irritation on sensitized or compromised skin. It is also formulated without parabens. Any subtle scent you notice comes from the functional ingredients in the formula, not added fragrance.
How does the pH of iS Clinical SHEALD Recovery Balm support barrier repair?
The formula is balanced to a pH of 5.5, which matches your skin's natural acid mantle. When the skin is compromised, pH often shifts higher, slowing recovery and increasing sensitivity. Maintaining the correct pH environment helps the ceramides and lipids integrate more effectively and supports the skin's natural healing response.

This cream is very rich, thick. I think it helped with post procedure. I used it primarily on my neck, as that was the area that was slowest to heal. I have fair, somewhat sensitive/delicate skin and it takes a long time for redness to disappear. I choose to believe that Sheald helped.

This is an amazing night time moisturizer. It truly heals. I love everything about it. I have sensitive skin and are prone to getting closed comedones with even the simplest moisturizers. This one just simply does what it intends to do.

I'm perimenopausal & have always had highly reactive skin. A few years ago, I developed rosacea. I've also struggled to find a moisturizer that doesn't cause some problem or other for most of my life. I have been using this for about 2 weeks & my skin feels so soft and healthy- no itching, no random blemishes. Even the ruptured cystic blemishes in the crease of my nostrils have healed! It looks like it's going to be heavy and greasy, but a small amount hours a long way and my skin just soaks it right up. It's a beautiful thing!

Great product to use after a peel or if using tretinoin. Very moisturizing and I just love it. This was originally recommended to me by my master esthetician.
