NeoGenesis Mandelic Acid 8% Serum
NeoGenesis Mandelic Acid 8% Serum is a gentle exfoliating treatment that clears breakouts, fades dark spots, and smooths uneven texture without the irritation that comes with stronger acids. Built around chirally correct L-mandelic acid at an 8% concentration, this serum offers a slower, more controlled penetration into the skin compared to glycolic or salicylic acid, which means effective results with significantly less redness and sensitivity. It is oncology-approved and well-suited for even the most reactive skin types.
Key Benefits
Clears Breakouts Without Overdrying L-mandelic acid has natural antibacterial properties that target acne-causing bacteria at the pore level, helping to reduce active breakouts and prevent new ones from forming.
Fades Post-Acne Dark Spots and Uneven Tone By accelerating cell turnover, mandelic acid lifts away pigmented surface cells to visibly reduce hyperpigmentation, acne marks, and sun damage over consistent use.
Smooths Fine Lines and Rough Texture Gentle exfoliation loosens the bonds between dead skin cells, revealing a smoother, more refined surface while supporting the skin's natural renewal cycle.
Keeps Pores Clear and Minimized Regular use helps dissolve the buildup of oil and debris inside pores, reducing their visible size and preventing the congestion that leads to blackheads and closed comedones.
Calms and Hydrates During Exfoliation Sodium PCA, glycerin, and hydrolyzed rice protein work together to attract and hold moisture while soothing the skin, so exfoliation never tips into dryness or irritation.
If you deal with recurring breakouts, post-acne dark spots, or uneven skin texture and your skin has not tolerated stronger acids like glycolic or salicylic in the past, this serum was made for you. Mandelic acid's larger molecular size means it absorbs more gradually, delivering results without the stinging or flaking that keeps sensitive skin types away from chemical exfoliants.
Ideal for anyone with acne-prone, oily, combination, or sensitive skin who wants a single product that addresses breakouts, hyperpigmentation, and rough texture at the same time. Because it is oncology-approved, it is also a strong choice for compromised or post-procedure skin that still needs gentle exfoliation and brightening support.
If you are new to mandelic acid, use this serum only at night for the first two weeks and pay attention to how your skin responds before adding a morning application. A slight tingling is normal, but if you notice persistent redness, scale back to every other evening and build up slowly from there.
Apply: After cleansing and toning, dispense 1 pump and spread evenly across the face, neck, and chest.
Follow: Layer your moisturizer on top, and always finish with SPF during the morning.
Frequency: Start with once-daily use, preferably in the evening. Gradually increase to twice daily (morning and evening) as your skin acclimates for enhanced breakout control and skin renewal.
- Mandelic Acid (8%): An alpha-hydroxy acid that brightens, suppresses hyperpigmentation, and enhances cell turnover.
- Propanediol: Moisturizes skin, improves texture, and assists with product absorption. Also contains antimicrobial properties.
- Glycerin: Provides long-lasting, intense moisture retention.
Water, Propanediol, Mandelic Acid, Glycerin, Sodium PCA, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Lactic Acid.
What skin concerns does NeoGenesis Mandelic Acid 8% Serum treat?
It targets active acne breakouts, post-acne hyperpigmentation, clogged pores, rough texture, and fine lines. The 8% L-mandelic acid concentration is strong enough to deliver visible improvement in tone and clarity while remaining gentle enough for daily use on sensitive skin.
How is NeoGenesis Mandelic Acid 8% Serum different from glycolic acid serums?
Mandelic acid has a larger molecular weight than glycolic acid, so it penetrates the skin more slowly and evenly. This translates to less irritation, less stinging, and a lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which is especially important for darker skin tones and reactive skin types.
Can I use NeoGenesis Mandelic Acid 8% Serum if I have sensitive skin?
Yes. This serum is oncology-approved and specifically formulated to be well-tolerated by sensitive and compromised skin. The chirally correct L-mandelic acid provides effective exfoliation with minimal irritation, and hydrating ingredients like glycerin and sodium PCA help keep the skin comfortable.
How long does it take to see results with NeoGenesis Mandelic Acid 8% Serum?
Most users notice smoother texture and fewer new breakouts within the first two to three weeks. Improvements in hyperpigmentation and overall skin tone typically become more visible around four to six weeks of consistent daily use.
Can I layer NeoGenesis Mandelic Acid 8% Serum with other NeoGenesis products?
Yes. If you use NeoGenesis Recovery or Booster, apply those before the mandelic acid serum. NeoGenesis Skin Serum can be applied after. This layering order ensures each product absorbs properly and delivers its full benefit.
Do I need to wear sunscreen when using NeoGenesis Mandelic Acid 8% Serum?
Yes, always. Any exfoliating acid increases your skin's sensitivity to UV exposure, which can worsen hyperpigmentation and undo the brightening progress you have made. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning as your final skincare step.
Is NeoGenesis Mandelic Acid 8% Serum safe for acne-prone skin?
Absolutely. Mandelic acid has inherent antibacterial properties that help reduce acne-causing bacteria, while its exfoliating action keeps pores clear of the oil and dead cell buildup that triggers breakouts. The lightweight, non-comedogenic formula will not add congestion.

I've been using this mandelic serum for years. Neo Genesis always provides superb quality, and this serum is no exception. I've tried various brands of mandelic serums carried by the AOS team, and this is my personal favorite.

I have sensitive, acne-prone, congested and combination-oily skin. Most serums, moisturizers, cleansers, and essential oils make me break out, so I was hesistant to try this product. However, I liked the simple but effective list of ingredients in this product. Well, I am overjoyed to say that the Neogenesis Mandelic 8% Serum worked miracles on my skin and I will continue to repurchase it. I have used it for around 6 months now. I only use it at night after cleansing with the Dr. Esthe Powder Cleanser and then I follow up with a little Rosehip oil. It does not make my face tingle or react. The consistency is thin, which I love and you only need one pump to cover your entire face. It plumps my skin and gives me this subtle glow immediately after until the next morning. It has also softened the subtle forehead lines that have appeared in my 30s and helped lighten some really dark post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation spots from acne and allergic reactions. I love it and I’m so happy that I finally found a serum that my skin can tolerate!!
