Jeana's 5-Step Winter Night Routine
My Winter PM Routine
Five steps. Everything my post-menopause skin needs. Nothing it doesn't.
At the end of the day, I don't want a complicated skincare routine. I want to cleanse my face, give my skin what it needs, and go to bed.
But simple doesn't mean doing less for my skin.
In winter, my post-menopause skin needs extra support for hydration, barrier strength and healthy collagen, along with a retinoid to keep cellular renewal moving. And because my skin is sensitive, I want all of that without pushing it into irritation.
This is the routine I come back to every night.
Why This Works for Me
At this stage of my life, I'm not interested in throwing ten products at my skin. I want a routine that protects what I have, supports healthy collagen, keeps my barrier strong and gives my skin the nourishment it needs in winter.
Five products. Every night. And my skin stays comfortable enough that I can be consistent, which in my experience matters far more than a complicated routine I won't stick with.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is your night routine so much simpler than your morning routine?
In the morning, I'm building a plump, luminous finish that has to last all day, so I layer more. At night, my goal is different. I want to support my skin while it repairs and renews, and that takes fewer, well-chosen products. Simple also means I'm consistent, and consistency is what delivers results.
Why do you use a retinoid at night?
Retinoids support healthy cell turnover and collagen, which helps improve the look of fine lines, texture and firmness over time. Using a retinoid at night lets it work while skin is in its natural repair mode, without daytime exposure to sunlight.
I have sensitive skin. Can I use AlphaRet every night?
My skin is sensitive, and AlphaRet is one of the few retinoids I tolerate well enough to use nightly. Part of that comes down to layering. Applying Mystro Revive Renewing Serum underneath any retinoid is an excellent strategy for skin that's sensitive to retinoid use, because its barrier-supporting lipids and hydration help keep skin comfortable while the retinoid does its work. Everyone's skin is different, though. If you're new to retinoids, start two or three nights a week and increase as your skin adjusts.
Why do you use Mystro Revive Renewing Serum, and why does it go under your retinoid?
Mystro Revive was created specifically for skin going through perimenopause and menopause. As our hormones shift, skin often becomes drier, duller and less firm, and fine lines and crepiness become more noticeable. This serum combines a blend of plant adaptogens with antioxidant technology and barrier-supporting lipids like cholesterol and ceramides to help skin look smoother, firmer, more hydrated and more luminous. I apply it before AlphaRet because it's the lighter texture, and lighter layers always go on first.
Why does this routine focus on lipids and barrier support?
After menopause, skin naturally produces fewer lipids, and winter air pulls even more moisture from the skin. The EPICUTIS Lipid Serum and SENTÉ Dermal Repair Ultra-Nourish help replenish and reinforce the barrier, so my skin stays comfortable and better able to tolerate active ingredients like retinoids.
Is this routine only for post-menopause skin?
I built it for my own post-menopause skin, but it works beautifully for anyone with mature, dry or sensitive skin that needs extra hydration and barrier support in colder months.
Can I use this with the HOP+ morning routine?
Yes. The two compliment each other beautifully. The HOP+ routine builds plump, luminous skin by day, and this routine focuses on repair, renewal and collagen support at night. Because you're using a retinoid, daily sun protection in the morning is especially important.
Why is this a winter routine?
Winter brings cold air, indoor heating and lower humidity, all of which leave skin drier and more reactive. This routine leans into richer hydration and barrier repair to counter that. In warmer months, my skin often needs a lighter finish.
How soon will I see results?
My skin feels more comfortable and hydrated from the first night. Smoother texture and a softer look to fine lines typically build over several weeks of consistent use, with the best results coming over a few months.
